Second Harvest Heartland

The Pound for Pound Challenge, partnering with NBC's The Biggest Loser, General Mills, and Subway are donating 1 pound of food for every pound of weight pledged.  For those joining the Live Wright team the local food bank that is chosen is the Second Harvest Heartland so I thought you might want to know a little bit more about them!

Second Harvest Heartland's mission is to end hunger through community partnerships.  As the Upper Midwest’s largest hunger relief organization, their goal is not only to help our hungry neighbors today, but to provide the means for everyone to be fed tomorrow.  In 2010 alone Second Harvest Heartland will have collected, warehoused and distributed nearly 60 MILLION pounds of food.  Food is delivered to 1,000 member agencies including  local food shelves, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, senior community centers and children's after school programs.  For each $50 donated, Second Harvest Heartland can distribute more than 180 meals to those in need.
